Join me (Ralph–Rafael–de la Portilla) on a journey along Little Havana’s most famous street, Calle Ocho, and not just within the popular arts district. We’ll visit museums, bodegas, galleries and other sites, learning not only about the area’s history but also about the immigrant and first generation American experience.

What We’ll Do:

We’ll start off in Cuban Memorial Park, where I will share intriguing stories about its monuments, history and famous ceiba tree. Then we’ll meander along Calle Ocho, heading into mom and pop businesses, art studios, bakeries, cigar shops and more … (can’t reveal all my secrets). Our tour includes special people-to-people experiences.

Learn how to partake in Cuban cultural rituals — like Cuban coffee and dominos, and find out how these traditions have changed and shifted from the way they used to be — and are — practiced in Cuba.

Regulars playing dominos in Domino Park.

My tour emphasizes Cuban and Latino food and cooking traditions (and other cultural traditions), Little Havana (and Miami) history, Cuban/U.S. relations and politics, experiences of growing up Cuban-American in Little Havana and Miami, and Little Havana now.

What’s Included:

  • 2.5-hour walking tour
  • Cuban cafecito tasting
  • 2 additional tastings
